As my time here in China comes to a close, I am so excited to finally go home. However, I know that once I leave I will immediately miss it so much. I was so lucky to score this amazing opportunity. I'm so grateful for this chance
And so in thinking about my past three and a half months here, I decided to compile a list of some of the things I experienced.
- I hiked on the Great Wall of China (twice)
- I ate dog on the Great Wall of China
- I stood in Tian'anmen Square
- I did the polka at the Temple of Heaven
- I explored the Summer Palace
- I shopped at the Silk Market
- I ate a sea snake, scorpion, centipede, starfish, shark, wolf, and dog
- I got to converse with several people who have never left China
- I got to be the first foreigner someone ever saw
- I stood next to the third tallest building in the world
- I saw the construction site for the next tallest building in the world
- I had a baby shoved into my arms so their parents could take a picture of her with me
- I walked down the Bund
- I rode a ferry across the Yellow River
- I learned how to barter
- I played impromptu bumper boats with unexpecting families
- I got propositioned by many parents wanting to set me up with their middle aged sons
- I got to spend the night in a siheyuan styled building
- I sang karaoke with a bunch of drunk Koreans
- I got to spend a total of 28 hours on a train over the course of a week
- I had sleep-drunk Chinese conversations at 4am on a train
- I stayed two nights at a hostel in Nanjing
- I walked through a traditional Buddhist temple (Fuzimiao)
- I drove a golf cart across the Nanjing Wall
- I made tons of friends who I will never ever forget
Some of the things I will miss in China are the public transportation system, getting to speak Chinese every day, the plethora of bars and clubs, the way locals stare at us, the super cheap and stylish clothes at the numerous markets, bartering for great deals, genuinly friendly salespeople, the delicious food, and most of all I'll miss my two fantastic friends I made here.
But every experience must come to an end. And I couldn't be more excited to go home. I get to go and see my very best friend who I haven't seen for almost 4 months and I'm so excited to spend as much time as I possibly can with him
